The San Francisco 49ers traded out of pick No. 31 just like we all thought they would. But to move up? The 49ers packaged picks 31, 117, and 176 to move up and acquire Arizona State's explosive receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk stands at 6-foot even, 205 lbs with a longer wingspan than Arik Armstead. After the departure of veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders, it was pivotal they fill that void.
Beyond Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne, it was all uncertainty at receiver, making it a must in the first round.
After transferring from Sierra Junior College in California, Brandon Aiyuk closed out his two-year stint at A-State averaging 18.3 yards per catch on the season and accumulating over 1200 yards on 65 catches.
That production was even more impressive considering he played pitch-n-catch with a true freshman quarterback. On top of his receiver abilities, Aiyuk was also a terrific return man and that shows up when he catches the ball in the open field. In my notes, I put that Aiyuk's best days are ahead of him. The 49ers have added big-time talent at wide receiver.
