Aldrick Robinson was one of several former offensive players of Kyle Shanahan’s to reunite with the coach in San Francisco. He joins a rebuilding receiving corps that is light on size, big names and currently has no distinguished identity.
But so far, Robinson’s been performing in camp, looking like a roster lock, and he also likes what he’s seen from his peers.
One player Robinson talked about Saturday after the Levi's Stadium open practice was rookie Trent Taylor.
“Trent’s a great player,” Robinson said, making him the latest to heap praise upon the Louisiana Tech product.
“You know, Trent, he’s a rookie, and a quick learner. He’s tough. He can do everything. He can run intermediate routes. He can catch the ball well,” Robinson added. “I call him ‘Toe-Tap Taylor,’ he’s good on the sideline.
“He’ll be able to do a lot of big things in this league.”
Taylor was drafted by the 49ers in the fifth round, No. 177 overall.
There were 24 receivers taken ahead of him, even though in 2016 he led the NCAA in receiving yards (1,803) and finished second in catches (136). Since he arrived with the 49ers, he’s been one of the most consistent bright spots in camp on either side of the ball, and is responsible for a number of the top offensive plays made.
A real technician at the wide receiver spot, it appears Taylor’s game has translated thus far.
